Frequently Asked Questions

Can I leave my stuff in a room?

We do not recommend leaving anything behind. Multiple people may use any single room throughout the course of a day, so we cannot guarantee anything will be secure if left unattended. The rooms may not be locked at any time.

Can I bring/serve/sell alcohol in the space?

Please clear any planned alcohol use by us first, then take one of the following steps:

If you want to serve alcohol to guests as part of a private, un-ticketed event, you may do so by pulling event insurance and listing Somerville Music Spaces LLC as additionally insured, as well as signing an alcohol liability release waiver. Websites such as theeventhelper.com can help you get quick coverage for this type of event.

If you want to serve alcohol as part of a ticketed event, you can apply for a one day permit through the City of Somerville. Learn more about this process here. This can take 4-6 weeks, so you must plan ahead. Alternatively, you may hire an ABCC-licensed “12C Caterer.” You can find 12C caterers using the instructions here.

Any event that is open to the public and involves alcohol, whether BYOB or host serving, must obtain event insurance listing Somerville Music Spaces LLC and Unit C 1060 Broadway LLC as additionally insured, as well as sign an alcohol liability release waiver.

What is your cancellation/refund policy?

Bookings in all Studios, Practice Rooms, and the Rehearsal Room must be cancelled with 48 hrs notice of the start time to receive a full refund. You may reschedule bookings up to 48 hrs prior to start time.

EVENT Bookings in the Performance Room must be cancelled with 7 days notice to receive a full refund. If you must reschedule within 7 days, you may do so prior to 72 hrs before the start of the booking and will be charged an $80 rebooking fee.

If you have booked multiple hours with a tiered discount and must cancel a portion of your booking, you may lose the discounted rate.

Any reservation that must be cancelled due to severe weather (state of emergency declared by City of Somerville and/or closure of MBTA system) may be rescheduled for a future date.

Can I play amplified instruments?

Although our spaces have been isolated as much as possible from neighboring businesses and residences, due to the nature of our location being in a mixed use building, we can only allow very loud amplified instruments on a limited, case by case basis. You must receive written approval by the Management to bring amplifiers into any of the spaces. In general, small amplifiers for vocalists or acoustic/electric guitars will be permitted. Because the pianos take up a good amount of space in the rooms, we do not have the room to accommodate bands with multiple amplified electric instruments, drum sets, etc…

Can I hold a non-musical event in the Performance Room or other spaces?

Yes! The Performance Room is a beautiful, intimate event space for birthday parties, baby showers, meetings, workshops, co-working sessions, meditation, art classes, community gatherings, non-musical performances, etc. The piano cannot be moved out of the room, but can be covered and placed against the wall or in a corner.

The Rehearsal room has a full wall of mirrors and could be used as a small yoga studio, dance studio, meeting space, etc. The upright piano could be moved out of this space to maximize floor space.

Will you help publicize my event/teaching studio?

Yes! Send us the information about your event as soon as possible, and we will advertise with ticketing links on our website and socials! This is part of our Event package or a one time $20 add on to the regular hourly rate.

We are happy to refer inquiries for teachers and lessons to those that rent space from us on a regular/semi-regular basis. Let us know if you are interested in being added to a referral list. We just ask that you teach any referrals from us in one of our spaces.

For more detailed information about appropriate use of the spaces, please see our Terms and Conditions page. Users will be required to agree to these terms and conditions before using the space.
