Frequently Asked Questions
How do I pay for my reservation?
During the online booking process, you will be asked to choose which payment method you prefer between Zelle, Venmo, and Credit Card. You must enter a Credit Card to confirm the booking, but the card will NOT be charged unless you have chosen Credit Card as your preferred payment choice. If you have chosen Zelle or Venmo, we will send a request for the amount due. This request must be paid before the start of your booking, or we will charge the Credit Card on file.
How do I get to the space?
The entrance to our space is not directly on Broadway. If you are standing at the garage door at 1060 Broadway, you must continue walking to the intersection of Broadway and Packard. You will see a short staircase on your left with yellow sidewalk dots leading up into Lou Ann David Park. Follow the yellow sidewalk dots through the park onto the large covered plaza of the 1060 Broadway building. Our space is straight ahead past a sunken garden on the right. The Kisi entrance door is located just around the corner from the double entry doors under our sign. See the video here!
How does the Kisi access system work?
You can read about Kisi and watch a short video of it in action here!
Can I leave my stuff in a room?
We do not recommend leaving anything behind. Multiple people may use any single room throughout the course of a day, so we cannot guarantee anything will be secure if left unattended. That being said, our clients are pretty awesome, and if you accidentally leave something behind, it will probably still be there when you return! If you need to get back in to retrieve something past your Kisi access window, just send us a text message and we’d be happy to buzz you in. SMS is not responsible for any items left behind.
Can I bring/serve/sell alcohol in the space?
Please clear any planned alcohol use by us first, then take one of the following steps:
If you want to serve alcohol (beer, wine, and seltzers ONLY, no hard alcohol or mixed drinks) to guests as part of a private, un-ticketed event, you may do so by pulling event insurance and listing Somerville Music Spaces LLC as additionally insured, as well as signing an alcohol liability release waiver. Websites such as theeventhelper.com can help you get quick coverage for this type of event.
If you want to serve alcohol as part of a ticketed event, you can apply for a one day permit through the City of Somerville. Learn more about this process here. This can take 4-6 weeks, so you must plan ahead. Alternatively, you may hire an ABCC-licensed “12C Caterer.” You can find 12C caterers using the instructions here.
Any event that is open to the public and involves alcohol, whether BYOB or host serving, must obtain event insurance listing Somerville Music Spaces LLC and Unit C 1060 Broadway LLC as additionally insured, as well as sign an alcohol liability release waiver.
What is your cancellation/refund policy?
Bookings of all Studios, Practice Rooms, the Rehearsal Room and non-event Performance Room bookings 2 hours or less must be cancelled with no less than 48 hrs notice to receive a full refund. Renter may reschedule bookings any time up to 48 hrs before the start time.
Effective 10/8/2024, ALL Performance Room Events open to the public and requiring on-site personnel, Audition Blocks, and bookings greater than or equal to 3 consecutive hours will be subject to a 20% non-refundable deposit at time of booking.
Bookings of Events in the Performance Room must be cancelled with 7 days notice to receive a refund minus the 20% non-refundable deposit. Renter may reschedule bookings any time up to 7 days before the start time. If renter must reschedule with less than 7 days notice, renter may do so up to 72 hrs before the start time of the booking and will be charged a $100 re-booking fee.
Bookings of Events/Auditions blocking off more than 3 consecutive hours and/or more than 1 room must be cancelled with 14 days notice to receive a refund minus the 20% non-refundable deposit.
Please Note: Cancellation of Discounted Hourly Rate bookings may result in the loss of the discounted rate. For example, if Renter booked 8 hours at Tier 1 and cancel 2 of them prior to 48 hrs of start time, Renter will be charged the standard rate for the 6 hours kept.
Any booking that is not cancelled according to the policy above and paid prior to start time will be automatically charged to the credit card on file. If we are unable to charge the card on file, renter will be prohibited from booking future sessions until paid in full.
Any booking that must be cancelled with less than 48 hrs notice due to severe weather (state of emergency declared by City of Somerville and/or closure of the MBTA system) or “Acts of God” may be rescheduled for a future date.
Any agreed upon deposits, rental fees, and monthly payments must be paid by the dates agreed upon and/or stated on an invoice.
Can I play amplified instruments?
Although our spaces have been isolated as much as possible from neighboring businesses and residences, due to the nature of our location being in a mixed use building, we can only allow very loud amplified instruments on a limited, case by case basis. You must receive written approval by the Management to bring amplifiers into any of the spaces. In general, small amplifiers for vocalists or acoustic/electric guitars will be permitted. Because the pianos take up a good amount of space in the rooms, we do not have the room to accommodate bands with multiple amplified electric instruments, drum sets, etc…
Can I hold a non-musical event in the Performance Room or other spaces?
Yes! The Performance Room is a beautiful, intimate event space for birthday parties, baby showers, meetings, workshops, co-working sessions, meditation, art classes, community gatherings, non-musical performances, etc. The piano cannot be moved out of the room, but can be covered and placed against the wall or in a corner.
The Rehearsal room has a full wall of mirrors and could be used as a small yoga studio, dance studio, meeting space, etc. The upright piano could be moved out of this space to maximize floor space.
Will you help publicize my event/teaching studio?
Yes! Send us the information about your event as soon as possible, and we will advertise with ticketing links on our website and socials! This is part of our Event package or a one time $20 add on to the regular hourly rate.
We are happy to refer inquiries for teachers and lessons to those that rent space from us on a regular/semi-regular basis. Let us know if you are interested in being added to a referral list. We just ask that you teach any referrals from us in one of our spaces.
For more detailed information about appropriate use of the spaces, please see our Terms and Conditions page. Users will be required to agree to these terms and conditions before using the space.
